Su! Regionals Hamilton

A few ladies from the Simply Stars team at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

Before having my picture taken with Shelli, I had to give her a hug and let her know she is a celebrity to me. I admire her for so many reasons but mostly for her passion of bringing people together who are passionate about rubber.

What a fun and fabulous weekend I had attending Stampin' Up! Regionals in Hamilton.

Stampin' Up! holds motivation/business seminars once a year in each region and I have been privledged to attend for the past two years because the have been close to where I live - to only have a one hour drive is awesome; some ladies have a 4-5 hour drive to attend but it is worth it.

A group of Simply Stars team members head to Hamilton on Friday afternoon for the event and participated in a small (80 people) stamping event held by our fearless and talented leader, Heather Summers (#1 demonstrator of the year in Canada- yeah).

I met so many new people at this intimate event outside our own team; how rewarding is that to make new friends who share the same passion in stamping as I do. I even met a few terrifice people (I think of them as celebrities) from Stampin' Up! home office; Mark, Carrie and Shannon - what wonderful people!

Remembering Paris by Vintage Stamping

My DH was in Paris last week (yes without me...on business) and so this is where my inspiration came from for todays post.

We were in Paris on vacation a yeart ago and it is such a beautiful city; I could live there.

When I think of Paris, vintage comes to mind becasue of the history and beautiful archietecture. As I mentioned in my previous post, I love the vintage look and desire to do more of it and become better at it. These cards use a lot of different stamp sets to layer multiple images on the the cardstock and it is so much fun to do. Another technique I used is sponging on the edges as well as rubbing on the stamped image to make it look old. I am pleased with the finished look of my cards and look forward to doing more.

Learning Vintage Style Cards

I love the look of vintage cards but I have to admit I am not very good at it.
I think I first fell in love with the old and yet romantic look of vintage from Kimbery...she is so talented and funny, (I had the privilege of meeting her in Cambridge a few years ago) full of wisdom and inspiration.
I had this idea of what I wanted to do and finally gave it a whirl. I am happy with the way it turned out. Since this was for my husbands birthday and I knew he would not appreciate it, I didn't add the beautiful lace ribbon but next time for sure.

Colour and Layout Challenge

I am certain that everyone in the stamping world knows or has heard of Heather Summers and how extremely talented and super nice she is.

Before Heather went off to Convention this week , she put a challenge on her blog using this layout and also a colour challenge using Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Pacific Point. It was optional to use the clour challenge incorporated in the layout challenge or simply keep them seperate and use it as two challenges.

As you may be aware, I had gone back to school part time and am now taking the summer off to be with my children (they are teens but I just want to spend time with them) as this may be the last summer off as I hope to have a job next year. Ooop, I got off track there anyways, I seemed to have lost my creative mojo and being challenged with a layout design is exactly what I need to get my creative juices flowing throw my veins again. Not to mention it also justifies purchasing new items from the new catalogue.

I attended out Simply Stars downline meeting last night, and did it feel good-actually it felt great. It was good to see all the ladies, share a lot of laughs and get my feet wet in stamping again. I made one card and it took me forever, couldn't believe one could get out of practice.

I have been so consumed with school work and have not pulled out my stamps since Christmas (gasp). I am thinking that I need a break from school, take the summer off and stamp but if I do that then I may get out of the study mode...what to do!

I am looking forward to the new colour renovation, the colours are great.

I have to show you the adorable felt cup holder Heather prepared as out Make n' Take. Heather used the Baskets and Blooms die and we cut off the handle, added a little blanket stitching for detail and "x" stitching to join the two pieces and added a few felt flowers. The "Sweet Pea Stitched Felt" #117266 $11.95 is from the Occassions Mini which you can still order from until April 30, 2010.

I just thought I would catch all my follwers up on what I have been up to and why I haven't been posting.
I have gone back to school, part time , but the coarse is intense and considering I haven't been in school for over twenty five years, I am rusty and overwhelmed.
If I am caught up and need to create, I will certainly post but they will be far a few between....for now anyways.

Using up the old making room for the new.

I remember seeing these adorable ornaments on Kimbery's blog last Christmas and thought I would make some to use up some retired materials I have (remember I like to collect pretty things in case they no longer make it). I am thinking if I whip up a box using the backing of the DSP packages, I could give these away to a neighbour.

The ornaments were purchased from a craft store and the top is removed and I inserted about twelve rolled strips of paper (1/2" x 6" wrapped around my paper piercer). I added a snowflake felt flurry to the top for added appeal. If you look real close, I even added some retired rub-ons to one side of the ornament.
In case I don't make another post before December 25th (kids are home from school for Christmas Break) I wish all my followers a very Merry Christmas filled with sparkle, joy, and warm memories and a Happy New Year filled with stamping and new goodies from the Celebration/Occassions Mini which starts January 4th, 2010.

I almost forgot the my gift I received from my Secret Santa at our Christmas Down Line Party.
Leslie made this adorable package and the goodies inside as well. Thanks Leslie, they were very yummy.
When I chose this gift from under the tree and held it in my hands, I thought they were the wooden block Stampin' Up! have in the Holiday Mini. To my surprise they opened up.

Simply Perfect

As I mentioned earlier this week, Heather prepared a 'Make and Take" for each one of her team members attending the Christmas Dinner a week ago. Can you believe it? It is so adorable and would be appropriate for a guy or girl. Now the Tim Horton mug did not come with the package but everything including the candy/chocolate did; Heather is so sweet, kind, thoughtful and so caring. You know, adding a Tim mug and/or Tim card to this adorable package would be perfect.

I love the colour combination Heather chose for this make n' take; Soft Suede and Kraft. The chocolate bar wrapper is the perfect addition to a good cup of coffee, hot chocolate or while stamping.

This kraft envelope (didn't know SU offered kraft envelopes) houses a package of hot chocolate waiting to be enjoyed of a cold snowy day.

Now the Strawberry Kiwi candy cane is pretty yummy, but imagine a traditional candy cane in this wrapping used to stir the hot chocolate. The wrapping for the candy cane is made from the Two Tags Die.

Candy Cane Hershey Kisses (7 of them) in a small cello bag fits perfectly with a Top Note topper. What I especially love about this is the small piece of cardstock that is stamped and inserted into the cello bag as a backer.

The Reindeer above was at each place setting from Heather and her daughter Emma. It is my understanding that Emma and her cousin Monica made the reindeer.

Rudolph was not alone at the table either.

Renee, a fellow team member of Simply Stars made everyone a reindeer and placed it at the table as well.

I think they are both adorable.

Thank You Renee, Heather and Emma for these cute table favours.

By the way, I want to get at the treats inside the sweet treats cups but don't want to damage his bright shiny nose.

Snowflake Ornament

Besides being a beautiful Snowflake Ornament can you guess how it was made?

I have to say "Thank You: Janey for this beautiful ornament. Janey, a Simply Stars team member, made everyone in attendance of the down line Christmas Party a snowflake tree ornament; she is so sweet!

Janey took the time and endured a few minor cuts to make these snowflakes. Each snowflake required one wahsed and dried pop can. She had to cut off the top and bottom of the can and cut the cylinder to open flat. Carefully she place the piece of aluminium on the snowflake die and ran it through the Big Shot. Each ornament has two snowflakes adorned with a rhinstone brad in the center and a piece of silver cording.

Everyone was so facinated with this little treasure.

Thank You Janey for thinking of each one of us with a gift hand made with love.

I made Heather this framed picture as a huge Thank You to show my appreciation for all she does for me. I am simply honoured and proud to be a team member of "Simply Stars".
I ran out of vinyl so I stamped my image to place inside the 6" x12" frame. I chose snowmen for two reasons...it can stay out on display for the winter months and Heather loves snowflakes and snowmen.

Secret Santa Gift

This picture is the Secret Santa gift I made for our down line party. I used retired DSP from Stampin' Up! becasue it was perfect with the Chocolate Chip Vinyl "SNOW" from the Holiday Mix Decor Elements found in the Holiday Mini. To add a bit of bling, I stamped a silver snowflake with a rhinstone brad in the center of the "O".
"Simply Stars" enjoyed our Christmas Dinner Party on Friday night.
Heather Summers is my upline extroidanaire and she plans a fabulous get together for us every month may it ibe business or celebration.
Our dinner was held at Wimble Hall at Kings College and the dinner was catered by staff at Kings. We enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner, turkey and all the trimmings and chocolate mouse cake for dessert. Oh, did I mention the table favours at each place settting made by Heather and her daughter Emma (who is 9 years old). I will show you those later on this week as well.
We started the eveing off visiting with Simply Stars team members whom I call friends. I look forward to sharing ideas and getting to know every lady who loves everything Stampin' Up!.
Before we sat down for dinner, and everyone had arrived, we started the eveing off with a game; Heather loves games; but then so do we as Heather always has prizes.
After dinner, we proceeded to the other room to do our "make and takes". I will share Heather's fabulous creation with you tomorrow.
Heather also arranged a Secret Santa gift exchange for those who chose to participate. This is so much FUN!

Tree Ornament Turtorial Part 4

Apply mini glue dots to the corners of the scallop square and place on top of styrofoam ball. Use your paper piercer in each of the corners to assist in inserting the brads.

Apply two glue dots on top in the center and apply your gold/silver cording as shown.

Next, add another glue dot on top of the cording, find the center of the grosgrain ribbon and place on top. Secure with an aplique pin. Tie your bow and your finished.

What's an Ornament without a box? After all isn't it all about presentation?!

Be kind to the enviroment by using the white cardboard from the DSP packages; it's sturdy enough and perfect for gift giving.

You will need 2 peices of the cardboard.

Bottom: 11" x11" scored at 2 1/2" on all four sides

Lid: 8 1/8" x 8 1/8" scored at 1" on all four sides

Cut on the score lines to form tabs.

Embellish box with coordinating DSP as the tree ornaments.

Four ornaments will fit nicely into this box.

Tree Ornament Tutorial Part 2

Apply glue dots to each of the corners of the 2 1/4" square and secure with aplique pins in each corner to form the bottom of the tree ornament. Smooth out the paper as best as you can; there will be a few wrinkles but it is not noticable when you are finished.

You will add your first rowe of triangles by placing a triangle to cover the square corner of the first piece (bottom) as shown in the photo.

I know a video tutorial would have been best but I am not a "techy" person and haven't figured that out yet...one day.

You will alternate colour/pattern on each row. This time you will place your second colour/pattern of triangel between the previous layer and slightly above as shown.

Repeat.

There will be four triangles used for each rowe and three rowes of each colour of triangles.

Tree Ornament Tutorial Part 1

What a week this has been so far...busy, busy, busy.
Every year I say to myself I am going to do less, relax more and focus on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth Christ.
I have not achieved that goal yet. I love baking, decorating, crafting and volunteering at my childrens school to help others but I have made a conscious effort to think of the birth of a King and the gift he gave.
Todays post is for all the wonderful and kind (and extremely patient) ladies who have contacted me regarding the Christmas tree ornament I made here and here.

Supplies:
aplique pins (1/2" to 3/4" in lenght)
2 1/2" styrofoam balls
glue dots
8" gold/silver cording
12" 1/4" grosgrain ribbon
gold/silver brads
scallop edge punch
paper piercer
1-3"x3" square of DSP -scallop all four sides of this square
- this will be the top of the ornament and is applies last
- pierce each of the corners with a paper piercer
1 - 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" square of DSP this is the botton and the first piece applies to assemble the ornament. Use a paper piercer to make a smal hole each of the corners...this helps to save time and makes it easier for inserting the aplique pins
12 - 2"x2" squares of DSP (one pattern or shade of DSP)
12 - 2"x2" squares of DSP (a second pattern or shade of DSP)
-fold each of the 24 - 2"x2" squares in half to form a triangle and fold in half again to make a triangle
-pierce two of the corners of all these pieces

Assembly:
Apply glue dots in each of the corners of the 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" square to help stick to the ball and then insert the pins to secure.

Layers:
Apply mini glue dots to the two corners of all the triangles

Tim Hortons meets Stampin' Up!

A friend of mine asked if I would make an oversized Christmas card for the staff at Tim Hortons.
The staff party is this coming Saturday and approx. 150 employees had to sign the card.

This was going to be a challenge as the stamps are small to scale in comparison to the half sheet of bristol board I would be using. I had idea in my head I wanted to do but wasn't sure if I could pull it off without re-doing my work.

I wanted a sure thing so I turned to my extremely talented up line, Heather Summers.
I cased a card she had made last year and new it would be perfect.

I added the extra pages for signing and dressed them up too. I was given some timbit boxes and coffee cups so I cut the "Merry Christmas" using the Simple Alphabet die from Stampin' Up! I was pleased with the card and I especially like the Tim Hortons logo on the back. My friend was super happy with the card as well .

Top Note Santa

Christmas Hostess Gift

At the time I made a Thanksgiving Hostess Gift, I also made one for Christmas.
These are so much fun to make up and look so great.
I could have cut DSP to wrap around the nugget bars but instead I decorated 2 5/8" x 1" white mailing address labels. I did this by using Versa Mark and stamping snowflakes from the Christmas Punch set randomly over the labels. Then I used white embossing powder and heat set it. Next, I took my brayer and rolled it Real Red Classic Ink and brayerd it all over the labels. Lastly, I took a tissue and whited the red ink off of the white snowflakes. Then peel, wrap and stick. SO easey

It is my first time playing along with these ladies and I have to say what a fun and easy card to make.

The great feature about this card is that it can be displayed and will not fall over...how great is that.

Paper Bag Scrap Book

My fabulous upline Heather Summers gave us two brown lunch bags at our last meeting and said, "Here is your challenge". Decorate it.

I have to admit, I put it aside and forgot about it...until last night.

I have not put any photos on or journalling as I thought this would make an adorable little gift for someone this Christmas.
I used the Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP as well as cardstock in Chocolate Chip, Real Red, Old Olive, Kraft, Soft Suede, Confetti White and Sahara Sand. I embellished with ribbon hardware, brads and punches.
There are two pouches which I have inserted journal tags or you could attach a photo.

You could easily make your brown bag scrapbook fuller by adding an extra bag or two.

I was pleased with how it turned out and I hope you like it too.

Time to Trim the Tree....

I am gearing up for the Christmas Season ...I am definitely feeling ahead of the Season and it feels so good.

I learned how to make these adorable Christmas Ornaments from Jodie at our last "Simply Stars" downline meeting. We have so much fun and learn a lot from business tips- from make and takes to WOW demonstrations, to catching up with new friendships and even sharing recipes.

I couldn't wait to make a set of these adorable Christmas Tree Ornaments and although tthey looked simple to make I wasn't sure so I used some retired Stampin' Up! DSP just in case I made a mistake. Well guess what, these are super easy to make. I am very pleased with how they turned out.

Of coarse the four ornaments needed a gift box so I made a box to co-ordinate using the card board from the DSP packaging and decorated it with DSP, a bow and a tag.

Now I have another hostess gift ready to go for this Christmas Season. Thanks Jodie.

"The PPA Design Team are in the pink for Breast Cancer Awareness...celebrting cancer survivors, and remembering those that continue to battle, as well as the countless number of families and friends that have been touched by theis disease.

The PPA Designe Team is honoured to dedicate this weeks challenge to Karol Harris, and her loving daughter (and PPA Design Team member), Kris Kilcoyne. Karol cherishes her family and friends and has a zany sense of humour. She was diagnosed with breast cancer over three years ago and continues to battle its relentless invasion of her body. We hope this simple tribute brings a smile.

During Breast Cancer Awareness month, we would like to encourage everyone to be proactive in early detection and steadfast in your hope for finding a cure."

So I have created this tree ornament in pink (and a little silver) to hang on my tree this Christmas to honour and remember woman and their families who have endured this terrible disease.

Here is to the HOPE we all have to find a cure for Breast Cancer.

Pattern Pines

Have you ever had a creative block and not know what to do with a stamp set?

Pattern Pines stumped me so I had to check out Splitcoaststampers for inspiration.

I found these two cards which popped out at me and come to find out they are designed by the same person - Carole. Thanks Carole for your inspiration.

These were both simple but very pretty.

I attended a Mystery Card class at Heather's tonight and she was featuring the Pattern Pines stamp set as well. Heather had designed a beautiful card using the same materials but different look.

I love the stamp set Winter Post but I love it even more now that Stampin' Up! has the Christmas Punch stamp set (Level Two Hostess set) which contains the Santa postage stamp.

I was inspired to make this card by Deborah Maden.

Do you ever have moments where you just don't feel like thinking of putting together a colour combinatin or a sketch layout? Or how about the times you just feel like reading stamping blogs and think oh I will have to remember to make that sometime but never do.

Well, this is how I felt yesterday. I just felt like blog hopping (although I tend to read what my favourite stampers are up to not just look at the photos...you can waste a better part of the day doing this) but then I stopped and told myself that tody was going to be the day that I would make the cards I have been wanting to CASE.

For Three Boo-tiful Boys

I am going to have coffee with a friend who has recently moved back to Tillsonburg from Lambeth. Mark and Angie have three adorable little boys who hold a special place in my heart and I thought I just have to take them something. I know for a fact Carter will be in school, not sure about Eli as he is in SK and little Leyton I will get to see him but he doesn't really know me becasue they moved away when he was really small.
I got this cute card idea from Heather. Since I do not have the Serif Essentials Alphabet die for the Big Shot, I thought I would use the chipboard letters I had on hand (ok I was saving them). They are bigger than the treat cups but I am okay with the end result. I put a trap door on the inside of the card to retrieve the treats without wrecking the card.

Halloween Treat Boxes

Although I am not a big fan of Halloween, I couldn't resist making these three fellows to hang on my Holiday Tree. I got the idea from Becky who got the idea from Gretchen so you may just want to check out their versions.
I plan to fill them with treats as the special little ones come to my door but for now they act as a home decor item on my Holiday Tree.

The Frankenstein is also the project we will make on Monday for the Lunch Hour Program at school.

I do not have the new Fancy Favour Die for the Big Shot (yet) so I made due to make my own box to attach the dressed Top Note Die to. I took a 5" x 7" piece of cardstock and scored 1" along the
long edge and turned to score at 3" and 4" along the short side.

I hope you make some spooktacular packages for someone special this Halloween.

Thanksgiving Hostess Gift

I have had these cute nuget tins for awhile now and not becasue I didn't know what to do with them but because I had this mind set that if I used them, gave them away then I wouldn't have anymore...collecting is what some would call it.

Anyway I am trying really hard to use my stuff.

We have Thanksgiving dinner today at Grandma Jennie's and tomorrow at my brother and sister-in-laws' home. Yup, we are feasting on two turkey dinners. Both dinners are being held "back home" so we will be on the road each day as one lives an hour and twenty minutes away and my brother lives an hour and forty minutes away.

Last year I made table favours for the dinner table but this year I am giving a hostess gift and card to demonstrate for appreciation and thankfullness for dinner and family.

I made covers for the York Peppermint patties and then put six treats inside the nugget tin.

A big "Thank You" goes out to Becky over at Inking Idaho for this adorable Halloween Project.

This box holds three cards with envelopes in the bottom drawer (which I will post tomorrow) and the cool part is when you remove the lid from the box you will find a treat or two. Isn't this a fun and fabulous idea?!

Who wouldn't appreciate this sitting on their desk?

Although any stamp set could be used for this project, I wanted to make my first one similar to Becky's so I say a big "Thank You" to my friedn Barb for lending me her Eat,Drink and Be Scary stamp set.

I think this would be a great Christmas gift so be sure to check back soon for my Christmas version.

I admire all the Halloween projects I see other crafters make and I am trying really hard to get into Halloween. I tend to decorate our home more for Autumn than Halloween.
I am back volunteering in the school during lunch hour with students who want to learn to stamp cards and other 3-D items. This is a perfect opportunity to make some fun Halloween projects with the students. I think they will like this card and the opportunity to use the Big Shot and embossing folder.

My Christmas Wish

I love this set Home for Christmas but I wish I could watercolour.

In my head, I have this beautiful idea of this card being watercoloured but I have a difficult time choosing the colours or perhaps I just don't know how to watercolour; it doesn't turn out great anyways. So, with that being said I just did minimal colour.

Another thing I would change is the ruby red cardstock to ribbon but I don't have wide ribbon in the right shade.

Well, not really or at least not yet.
I love the snow but I am just not ready for it yet becasue I am loving this beautiful weather we are having. Tomorrow is the first day of Autumn and I love the fall colours, the cooler evenings, sunny days and Thanksgiving. We were married in October and the fall colours of the trees reflecting on the water offered a beautiful canvas for our wedding photos.

You know, I love the change of seson and all that it brings with each one.

Boy, you would think the way I was going on about Autumn that I would have a Fall themed card to show you but I don't.

Although this card by Michelle Hanway has no stamping, it is quite pretty. Michelle used the Petals A Plenty Embossing Folder to give texture and simply cut rectangles of the Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP.

Colleen McCambridge used one of my favourite sets Winter Post along with the Top Note Die and look at the luscious new ribbon; Sleigh Bells and the Red Polka Dot .

I think this card by Shanon is so adorable using traditional colours for Christmas and the circles remind me of snowballs which of coarse make a snowman.

My Mystery Card

I cannot say I am a big Halloween lover but my friend and super talented upline Heather Summers absolutely loves it. She goes all out in decorating for this fun occassion.
I tend to decorate for Autumn and when the kids were small, I loved to dress them up in fun custumes (not a fan of scary ones).
On Saturday we had our donwline meeting and it is always fun to get together and share our lives and love of stamping with one another.
Heather gave everyone the same materials (precut and prestamped) and each of us had to come up with a card. It is amazing that not one of us had the exact same card after we were finished with the "Mystery Card". This is my Halloween Card.
We have an organized card swap and this month was "Christmas" so over the next few days, I will posting some of the fabulous cards from the "Simply Stars" team who participated.
Martha demonstrated a workshop featuring Stampin' Pastels, Heater B demonstrated a WOW project, Renee prepared the make' n take and Jodie and Martha organized the swap. Along with refreshaments and prizes with have a fun, full meeting and leave feeling pumped to promote Stampin' Up!, inspired by the new techniques and connected to our frienships we have developed. I just love being a member of Simply Stars.
Now if you know me you will know that I am a bit shy and do not particularly enjoy speaking in front of people and next month at our meeting, I am presenting the WOW project (yikes). I am knowledgable about what I am doing it is just the talking...sometimes my mind is working faster than my lips (or vise versa) and my words are not coming out the way they are suppose to. However, I am excited and looking forward to doing it and I know that the more I do it the better I get.

Heartfelt Sympathy

Today's card is a card challenge from Mojo Monday 103 which I am thrilled to participate in.

I had to make another Sympathy card and I always find them difficult to make so I was happy for the help of a sketch challenge.

My brother and sister in law flew home from B.C. on Sunday so I was excited to hear about their trip. They had a wonderful 10 days out there but did not come home to happy news. My sister in law (Lori) found out that her sister's husband lost his nephew.

My heart goes out to families who loose loved ones of any age but when they are children it doesn't seem right as there time on earth is so short.

Cody was only seventeen. He died in the ambulance Saturday night and an autopsy is being preformed today.

It is never easy but I can only trust God knowing that His good and perfect will be done and that He is in control of all things.

My deepest and most heartfelt Sympathy goes out to the families of Cody and I pray that God will be your comfort, peace and love during this extremely difficult time.

Last night we brought home a new addition to our family. I'd like you meet Jazz.
Four weeks ago when we went "home" for haircuts, Joanne was nursing 4 kittens (since they were 3 weeks old) who lost their momma. Our daughter decide it was time to have a kitten since we haven't had one for a while. The kittens were not ready to leave the attachement of each other as they were only 5 weeks old. I thought Nicole may forget about the little kittens by the time our next appointment rolled around or they would be spoken for and sadly there would be none left for us.
Guess what? There were still three left. Well actually there was only one available as Joanne was keeping one and the other was a male kitten (which was not an option) so one little kitten remained up for adoption.
I don't recall saying, "Yes, we can take one home" but by the time we were ready to go, the last little female kitten was adopted.
I was wondering how our Chocolate Lab - Boston would make out with a kitten.
Boston was curious about this little fur ball and once he could check her out thought it might be nice to have a playmate. Now for Jazz, the feelings are not mutual. Boston gets along fine with Jazz and there won't be any problems once Jazz is old enough to be declawed (don't worry, Jazz will be a spoiled indoor cat)

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Todays post comes with a heavy heart. I made this card for first time parents and friends John & Danielle, who are grieving the loss of their precious baby boy Nathanial.

Nathanial was born prematurly on May 27th with congenital heart disease and some other complications. Nathanial and his Mommy and Daddy spent most of his life in the NICU in Toronto Sick Kids Hospital. Nathanial caught a virus and was put on a respirator on July 6th and taken off of life support on July 18th and was able to go home for the first time. Nathanial (along with Mommy & Daddy) had a lot of "firsts" like a buggy ride, a walk to the park, meet his puppy, sleep in his own bed, attend church and be close to his entire family.

Nathanial lived 5 weeks and 4 days off of life support and went home to be with Jesus on August 26, 2009.

I am convinced God had a plan for Nathanial and that Nathanial has completed His work. Nathanial has touched so many hearts and we saw God's hand at work.

Nathanial recieved the best care from doctors and nurses in the NICU and was given so many nick names; he was a fighter for sure. Nathanial left the doctors puzzled and amazed that such a tiny little body could endure so much pain.

Today at the funeral service, a celebration of his life, Danielle expressed that her little man had taught her more in such a short time than she could have learned in a life time.

Nathanial, you have blessed so many.

As I mentioned yesterday, Martha & Jodie both participated in the Artisan Award this past year and althought either of them won they were in the top running and were showcased at Convention 2009. I sure wished I would have been there to cheer them on when their names were on the screen for all to see. The adrenalin and exicement must have been over flowing on Awards Night at Convention with Jodie & Martha and as well Heather (our fabulous upline) for their hard work and recognition.

The title doesn't sound very good does it!?
I may have told you in the past that I am a proud member of the "Simply Stars" team under the umbrella of the sweet, generous and extremely talented Heather Summers.

Heather had eight of her team members attend Convention 2009 this year and no I was not one of them but Martha was.

There are many perks for being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator (which I would be happy to talk to you about if your interested) and one is the opportunity to compete in many art comptitions.

Every month is the Stampin' Success magazine (for demos only) with different contest categories.

A big contest is the Artisan Award which contains 3 cards, 2 scrapbook pages, and two 3-D items.

Martha & Jodie both participated in this contest.

This is not my usual style but I love it and think it is so pretty. This is a card I think could be framed (shadowbox style).

Every morning I have coffee with my blogging friends, people who *inspire, *create and *share, their projects for everyone to see. There are certainly a lot of talented people out there.
I remember when I fell in love with Stampin' Up! I was attending my first workshop and we made a simple card with a layer or two using cardstock, ink, stamps and I was hooked. Since that day I have made cards that are more complex, more embellishments, more layers, and more embellishments. It just seems natural to incorporate new techniques, ribbon, brads, buttons and the list goes on. Now don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with this, I love it.
Every once in a while I like to make a simple card, something that takes less time to whip up.
So by using only stamps, ink and paper this is what I came up with. You know, sometimes it is hard to resisit using the gorgeous ribbons, fabulous buttons, and brads Stampin' Up! offers:)

I take no credit for the design of this card; I CASED it from Jen at iheart2stamp. Jen's card popped out at me with the bright colours and her use of the punches and the placement of her sentiment as well as the paper and how she tied...actually everything about this card is so bright and cheerful. I love it!!

I do not have a stamp/craft room and I do not expect to have one anytime soon however I am taking over the family room slowly.

I am so excited I have to show you what my dear husband built for me. I love it!

It houses 40 colours of paper and fits 12 x12 paper. Now if you are doing your math, everyone knows Stampin' Up! has 48 classic colours 6 In Colours and 6 Neutral Colours and then there is DSP and also 12 Naturals so I am short at least 32 shelves plus all the DSP I have :)

I did inform my husband that I need at least 48 shelves before he started. After this was finished he said he was not making another one (It was very time consuming cutting each groove into the boards to fit the shelves) :(

So now I have my paper in the storage tower but the colours are doubled up and I still have a stack of DSP that does not have a home yet. Lance knows how organized I am and that this would bother me immensely so ...because he loves me, he is going to build me another one. Actually while he is at it, he might as well make me two more. This will give me 120 shelves and each colour will have it's own shelf :)

I think over all it will save me money because #1 I won't order paper I don't need and #2 I will use up the DSP before it retires becasue I can see it and it is at my finger tips.

Planning Ahead

I know you are probably thinking we are still waiting for Summer to arrive before thinking about Winter and I agree. Our Simply Stars Team is doing a Christmas/Winter card swap and I am playing around with different colour combinations, layouts and stamp sets. I discovered that the Boho Punch fits the snowflake stam in the Christmas Punch stamp set so I Stamped and punched some snowflakes and placed them inside the envelope before tieing the bow.
I am not sure if this is the card for the swap but I thought I would post it anyways to get you thinking ahead as well. You know, when I make sixteen cards, I get sixteen different ones back and so that will be a great start for my Christmas card list.

For a Special 15 Year Old

Our son turned 15 yesterday. I can not believe how fast the years have gone by, it doesn't seem possible.
Since I don't have the stamp set Exteme Guitar #115328 page 80 I thought I would make him a card I learned from Heather Summers Simply Punches 3. Justin loves music. Justin is a drummer and a good one at that and has been learning the guitar as well. This summer he is taking vocal lessons as well. We have a Rock Star in the making!
Now you are probably wondering how music and a robot came about right?! Justin likes all genres of music and yes even metal so I thought a heavy metal robot would be perfect.
This card has no stamping, just punches. The sentiments were typed up on the computer and punched out using the new modern label #116630 $22.95 and the word window punch # 105090 $22.95.
One thing I learned about using small shapes and a new craft white ink pad was to use a sponge for edging rather than dragging the cardstock through the ink pad ...it gets a bit messy.

The Last of the Swaps

Michelle (all the way from the East Coast) made this card pop with the balck and Bermuda Bay. The image from Razzle Dazzle was embossed which made the card pop twice. Nice work Michelle!

The very busy and comical and super Mom made this card using punches. Are these babies wrapped in blankets not the cutest. Heather told me she has been so busy running her kids to sports and other activities that she had to case her card from Andrea Walford's blog but regardless Heather did a fantastic job. Thanks Heather, now I don't have to make one with the little babies in a blanket.

This Thank You card was made by Kelly Fleming. Kelly used a variety of stamps from Eastern Bloom, Schoolbook Serif and Fundamental Phrases. The colours Kelly used look very nice together, Sage Shadow, Not QUite Navy, Sahara Sand and To the Nine DSP. I especially like the belly band around the card and when removed, reveals the sentiment "Thank U". Well Done Kelly.

More Talent...

There is one thing each of the cards from our swap had in common and that is they used the new "In Colours" and each card was uniquely different and equally beautiful.
The card above was made by Leslie using only designer series paper (DSP) ...no stamping! Nice Work Leslie. Leslie used the Level 3 Hostess set Lovely Flowers.Jodie takes credit for this pretty card which could be used for a Bridal Shower or Wedding Card. Jodie used the stamp set Fifth Avenue Floral #113734 page 98 and . Great colour combination Jodi.

This is a technique I have not done in awhile - crayon resist. Janey used glossy white cardstock to stamp her image on using stazon black ink and then filling areas of the images using white crayon. Next The ink is applied using a brayer or sponge, letting the ink set/dry and using a tissue or cotton ball rubbing ove the images to remove the ink where the crayon was applied. Nice work Janey.

I like the colours you chose Jenine and your stamped image is beautifully watercoloured using Bermuda Bay, Certainly Celery and Soft Suede. Very pretty card.

Belinda did a lot of embossing using the Texturz plates Stampin' Up!~ Backgrounds 1 #114512, Beautiful Butterflies die #114507 and I believe the Go Go Boots Sizzlets #113450 and Razzle Dazzle stamp set #116714 page 94.

Participating is swaps is a lot of fun and so rewarding in that you get a variety of cards illustrating ones style, demonstration of techniques and layouts not to mention inspiration for your own card making.

As I mentioned yesterday, these are cards from swap within Heather's team "Simply Stars". The first card was created by Paula Ballard. I asked Paula what she was thinking at the time becasue this card had a lot of detail and a lot of cutting let alone making sixteen of them. Paula your card is awesome, love it. Paula used the stamp set Gallery #113776 page 127, Great Friend # 113792 page 107, Top Note Die #113463 and Beautiful Butterflies die # 114507 both found on page 198. Simply Stars

I believe I have mentioned this before that I have a talented, fabulous friend and upline Heather Summers and we are called Simply Stars.

Heather arranged a full card swap within our group and I have to say we are a talented group of ladies. Sixteen ladies participated in this swap and as long as it was current Stampin' Up! products, the sky was the limit in our designs. Over the next few days, I will be posting cards from the swap. I hope you enjoy the fine creations.

The first card above was created by Renee Ballard. Renee chose a card with no stamping but has a lot of texture. I can't believe Renee made sixteen cards each with a dalhia fold flower. That's a lot of folding! Renee also used the texturz plates Stampin' Up! Backgrounds # 114512 on page 195. I think the card looks great, nice work Renee.

This card is soincredible! The stamped images are so crisp it looks like designer paper but it is not. I am convinced it is the quality of Stampin' Up! cardstock that makes images so clean and vivid. Back to the card, the designer of this piece of work is Charlene Godsave. Charlene is just starting to blog but you can check out her work here . Be sure to say Hi to Charlene and leave her a kind thougt.
Charlen used the Simple Friendship #113397 on page 105, Flight of the Butterfly #116564 on page 108

Linda Anderson is the designer of this beauty. Like the card above, the stamped images are sharp. Linda used the two step stamping set Greenhouse Garden #113824 on page 94 and in real the image has the illusion of dimension becasue of the clarity of the stamping. Linda used silver micro beads on the stamen of the flowers. Love this card.

Medallion Mania

I am just loving this Medallion stamp set, it has so much potential.
Todays card is embossed on Rich Raazzleberry one of the new In Colours from Stampin' Up!
Recipe:

Ink: Versa Mark, Clear Embossing Powder, Whisper White (for the sentiment), Rich Razzleberry
Embellishments: Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon, Modern Punch, Word Window Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Scallop Punch, Clear Gemstone Brad, dimensionals
The embossing on this card was done by inking up the Medallion stamp with versa mark, sprinkling with clear embossing powder and using the heat tool to set the powder. I also stamped another Medallion image on Whisper White cardstock using Rich Razzleberry Ink and punched out the centre using the scallop circle punch, inserting a brad and applying it with dimensional.

I am not sure if I saw this card layout somewhere or not but I sat down and started stamping and this is what I came up with. If I have viewed this card from somewhere else please let me know so I can give credit to you.

I am really pleased with the way these cards turned out. Wouldn't they be lovely as a boxed set or wrapped with a belly band?

I love the way the embossing turned out on the Bermuda Bay card...it looks like flocked paper.

Remember to punch out the scallop oval one layer at a time as the punched will not work through two sheets of cardstock. The sentiment was stamped on the inside of the card, making it a

peek-a-boo style card.

To obtain the In Colour Embossing, I first inked up my stamp with vers mark and then applied the in colour ink on top of this and stamped the image on Whisper White card stock. Then I sprinkled clear embossing powder and applied heat. This will give you an embossed coloured image on white cardstock

Where did the past week go?!
I realize I hadn't post in a week and when I think about it, I haven't stamped in that long either. I've been doing some scrapbooking.
I have been buying so many new things lately I get overwhelmed with what I am going to use and end up doing nothing. Does anyone else get this way?
I ahve been thinking of this set Wings of Friendship and what I would do with it and this morning I got busy and put a card together. I think it turned out pretty good and am pleased with the card.

My card today looks like the white circles are mounted on the Not Quite Navy scallop circles but actually it is not. First I punched three 1 1/4" circles out of Not Quite Navy card stock then I took the scallop circle punch and punched out a rim around the 1 1/4" circle. The circle punch will not punch through two pieces of cardstock so I marked with a pencil where I would punch three more 1 1/4" circles out of the Bermuda Bay cardstock. The scallopped rim was adhered to the Bermuda Bay cardstock. Next, I stamped my images on Whisper White cardstock and punched out using the 1 1.4" circle punch and adhered them on the inside of the card.

I wanted to make a card using the Dusty Durango and Rich Razzleberry and really didn't have a sketch in mind. My impression of this card reminds me of Autumn, which by the way I am not ready for just yet. The past five days have been dreary and rainy and I want to feel the warmth of sunshine on my face real soon. I am not sure how people in England live with so many wet and gray days.

I love tempting turquoise but rarely use it. So last night while we were watching television I thought I would make and clean and simple card using tempting turquoise. By the way our daughter Nicole mentioned once again that I have a hard time just watching an entire program with them. Nicole aqlso pointed out that I use to until I started stamping. Does anyone else have this desire or find it a bad thing?!

One of the new stamp sets in the catalogue coming out in one week from today is Circle Circus that I have not ordered yet (one of the benefits of being a Stampin' Up! demonstratoris to preorder) becasue I thought well I have the Big Flowers sets and thought it would do (for now).
I combined the old stamp set with the new In Colours. I saw this card here and wanted to try the ribbon technique and went with the same layout.

Teacher Appreciation

My intentions were to make this teacher gift by Nichole for my daughter, Nicole to give to her English teacher. I got a bit carried away and it no longer seemed appropriate for a Grade 7, male teacher.
I decorated a journal, pen, and a jar which contains strips of paper with journaling phrases. I thought it would be so appropriate for an English teacher to journal over the summer.
I might just have to give this to one of our favourite teachers from primary/junior years.

On my last post I mentioned how many cards I had to get ready for this week so today I am going to show you what I accomplished (actually I got most of everything done).

My husband had asked for a card to give coworkers for big events and so I decided to make a card and gift bag topper to coordinate.

The baby card was cased from Andrea Walford using the Wagon Full of Fun stamp set which is in the occassions mini. Which by the way ends on June 30th, so if you are wanting to place an order give me a shout via phone or email.

The second photo is the card I made for a retirement in the concrete construtction business so I thought aI would have some fun with the "It's a Sign" (which is retiring). The card is a design of Heather Summers.

I ran out of Summer Sun cardstock and had to resort to some left over card stock from another source so that is why the colour difference on the bag topper.

The bag toppers are so much fun and give a clean look to your gift. I love them.

Anyways, it is going to be a beautiful week in South Western Ontario this week with temps reaching up to 30 degrees celcius.

Teacher Thank You

June is extremely busy with activity and occassions to make cards.
I have been planning Nicole's Birthday Party, Father's Day, Lance's Birthday, Nicole's Birthday, Baby card for co-worker, retirement card for co-worker, teacher cards and gift - that alone is 10 teachers between my two children.
Tomorrow is Father's Day and I haven't made a card for our children to give to their Dad. Well that is not entirely true, as I taught a Father's Day Class at the school and Nicole made a card for her Dad.
Today I will show you a card I fell in love with from Nichole Heady and decided to duplicate it.
I typed up the sentiment on the computer and printed it off on whisper white card stock.

Yesterday I post a card for our daughter's 13th birthday who is a gift to my husband. Yes, Nicole shares the same birthday as Lance. I thought it was so cool but I have since learned that my husband has had his fair share of Princess/Girly birthday cakes, balloons and have has been overshadowed by Nicole. When their birthday falls on a Sunday which makes it Father's Day, Lance gets gyped once again.
My card for Lance is perfect becasue we got him a canoe for his Birthday, and Father's Day combined. I had water coloured the image on watercolour paper and wasn't really sure what layout I was going to use until I saw the card Linda Anderson made so I went with it. Thanks Linda!

Today my little girl turns 13...but she will always be my baby girl. I wasn't sure what kind of card I wanted to make for her - should it be a funny card, little girl, big girl, animated, serious etc., etc.
When I was blog surfing I came across this cute card and decided to CASE it becasue it was perfect, exactly what I was looking for.
This card totally fits Nicole's personality becasue she is girly, sporty, fun, smart and loves colour just to name a few. I could actually go on forever about Nicole, she is amazing and I love her all around the world and back again.

Orange You Glad Take Three

Ok this is the last of my orange cards for a little while.
I made three cards to send in to Stampin' Up! to better my chances of winning using as much orange as possible. All three cards used the stamp set Thoughts and Prayers and the Sweet Always Designer Paper. I also used as much orange embellishments as possible too.
I bet you are wondering if I won anything aren't you? No I did not win, I don't even know what the winner received. It didn't matter what the prize was, I just wanted to enter and try to win. Of coarse I was disappointed...after all did you see how many corduroy buttons I gave away!?

Orange You Glad Take Two

You are probably wondering with the title why on earth I made another orange card right?!
As a demonstrator, I receive a monthly publication called "Stampin' Success" and each month there are contests and you guessed it, I entered a contest.
The contest was "Orange You Glad" and I had to use orange. If you remember yesterday I said I like pink so this is a great way to incorporate my favourite colour with the orange by using the Sweet Always DP (which is retiring at the end of this month).
